A Minnesota native is hoping to bring what he describes as “Belfast’s newest oldest tradition” to the city with the launch of his online bagel business. Todd Engman relocated from St Paul, Minnesota, to Belfast with his family in 2019 after his wife secured an academic position at Queen’s University. Having quickly fallen in love with the city, the move soon became permanent. However, Todd found himself baking at home for his family in order to compensate for the lack of bagel options in the city - something that was a key part of his family's morning routine. After several years of honing his craft making bagels at home for family and friends whilst continuing to work full-time, six months ago Todd took the leap - crediting the move to Belfast with giving him the confidence to take that next step, describing it as an opportunity to “reset” after years working in corporate sales in the States. “It made me realise that I’d never really had that same love and passion for my job but I did when I was making bagels and I think that’s when I knew I wanted to get more out of it.” 📷 Dylan Hegarty
