And this ☝️☝️ at the core of the WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike. The CEOs say this is a bad time for a strike, because we just went through a pandemic that was ALSO disruptive. They fail to mention that they also made record profits during that pandemic. While the rest of us struggled.

It only took six months for billionaires to remove nearly a TRILLION dollars from the economy. Stories like these are written as evidence of “good financial times” but the richest getting this much richer this quickly isn’t good news.

My thoughts...

TIL that when SAG went on strike in 1960, the writers had already been on strike for five weeks and the studios brought in a federal mediator to find resolution. Their main issue was residuals and a lack of transparency on the 12-year-old "new medium" of broadcasting.

Writers: “we would like to be able to have security and compensation for the work we do” AMPTP: “we would like your children to starve”

The AMPTP is basically my parents telling me over and over again, “That’s not a REAL JOB. For a real job you have to wear a suit!”

Remember when we were all getting our start out here and someone would ask you to contribute your writing or acting skill to their project for free? And they’d try to sell it with, “Yes, you’re working for free. But think of the exposure!” That’s the AMPTP right now.

Seems totally cool and reasonable that the AMPTP wants my family to be out on the street and starving, rather than give up 2% of their record profits.
