New money in W is going to lead to old agencies wanting a slice of it. I had a convo in 2020, after the prior CBA got locked in, with a leading sports agency. I asked if they would ever have a WNBA/W basketball division. They said no. It wasn’t good business. The investment would outweigh the short term return. Well, now that’s no longer true, and the big typical agencies — Excel, CAA, Priority, WME, etc. — have all joined / hired W agents to rep NIL and W clients. Meantime, some of the folks who built the W representation space and have remained independent, like Boris Lelchitski and Allison Gaeler, are going to have fight for every client. Interesting times!
