Latino families will feel a relief in their wallets because of the NY budget deal that was announced by Governor Kathy Hochul. The deal centers working people and tackles everyday affordability. This proposed budget marks real progress, laying the groundwork for meaningful change by: - Expanding access to universal childcare - Lowering auto insurance costs - Advancing comprehensive housing reforms - Protecting people against abusive Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) We commend this budget and remain committed to working alongside state leaders and community partners to ensure it delivers real results and help build a stronger, more equitable New York for ALL.

On May 5, 1862, the Mexican army achieved an unexpected victory at the Battle of Puebla, a reminder of what’s possible when communities come together with courage and determination. For Cinco de Mayo @CWTips recognized the importance of connecting Cinco de Mayo to the work of uplifting and advancing Latino communities across the country. Congress had a chance to put food back on the table for millions of families. Instead, they passed a Farm Bill that leaves nearly $200 billion in nutrition funding on the chopping block, including critical support for Puerto Rico. SNAP works. Families shouldn’t go hungry because of political play. "The Farm Bill was an opportunity to right a wrong, return food to kitchen tables while revitalizing domestic agricultural economies.” Hispanic Federation urges Congress to return to bipartisan, normal order negotiations on reauthorizations to deliver the nutrition support that American families and farmers deserve.

Congress is moving to fast-track billions in immigration enforcement funding without the protections our communities deserve. We’ve already seen the consequences: families separated, classrooms emptied, small businesses shuttered, and more. While Hispanic Federation welcomes the reopening of essential Department of Homeland Security operations, it should NEVER come at the cost of unchecked enforcement that harms our communities. We are calling on Congress to reject this approach and return to bipartisan negotiations that prioritize safety, dignity, and protections for all. Our communities deserve better.

The Supreme Court’s decision is a profound step back for our democracy and our nation overall. This reprehensible ruling will reduce Latino, Black, and other minority voices and representation across the country. At a time when equal representation should be protected, this decision moves us in the opposite direction. We call on Congress to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act to ensure that equal representation is protected.
