The patient had an empyema and earlier in the day had chest tube placed. That introduced a tiny bit of air. What u see is a hydro-pneumothorax. This appearance has been termed a "hydropoint". Others have shared a link to Vopicelli's paper from 2013.

@vibharsh271 be careful with handhelds. quality of some is, in my opinion, unacceptable. you can set yourself back.

For someone like me who is in image collection phase of the shm portfolio - would you suggest buying a hand held device ? We don’t have a hospitalist machine so every time I think about scanning we have to borrow it from the ed. Would quality be significant affected? #POCUSchat

In addition to didactics, I enjoy telling stories (i.e. a case) in a real life situation where POCUS was the key in making an important clinical decision much faster. #POCUSChat I think there are several components. But one sort of unique one is a need for "POCUS community". I think a regular inter-disciplinary POCUS conference is very very helpful.
