I just Minted my first ETH NFT. MM # - 04 Buy Now: 1.5 ETH “Specks of dust in a vastness without limits. Escaping the labyrinth is no noble cause. Count the freckles on the face of your lover instead. Sums greater than the weight of their parts are the ingredients for a life worth living. Una vez terminado el juego, el rey y el peón vuelven a la misma caja; After the game is over, the king and the pawn return to the same box.” With Maquina Muertes, I’ve taken cues from some of my heroes, old and new, to attempt a form of storytelling that is risky. This piece is dripping with my love for Jodorowsky and Moebius. I was introduced to Moebius by the graphic novel The Incal. It was the first time I personally experienced comics with heart wrenching depth, existential questions and raunchy humor. Maybe neither of their best works - it IS the most important to me. You can decide what influenced what. I’m trying to avoid deconstruction of my work henceforth. If it can’t resonate and illicit an emotional response sans my groping for adjectives, then it’s not worth a damn. But back to the storytelling. Unbeknownst to me, Miyazaki takes this exact approach when creating his films. He creates intrigue. Imagery that worms it’s way into the depths of your periphery. Pings your soul in its novelty button. And then, after he’s captured a FEELING, he writes the story to glue the jumbled puzzle pieces together. Sometimes with brilliant simplicity (Totoro) and others with a fever dream of mind fuckery (Spirited Away / Howl’s Moving Castle). But the subtle continuity from film to film retains the spirit of what Miyazaki has adopted as religion - the world is alive, spirits are ubiquitous and the novelty of childhood is the truest magic in life. This is the form of storytelling I am attempting with the Maquina Muertes series. Just allowing loose thoughts to swirl without force, and creating imagery and composition with no need for context. Then, when the series is over, I’ll take my characters (@MySlimes_ ) on a more or less linear path through these story beats. Maquina Muertes, in this way, is a storyboard of an idea that is taking it’s first breaths. Xicano Futurism: Xicano is a political statement. Born of the American civil rights movement. Americans of Mexican descent, but born and cultured in America. People who belong here. Growing up with the flavor and style of immigrated culture and First Nation Peoples, adapting along side their European…guests. Not Mexican. Not Hispanic. Xicano (you can argue about ‘Ch‘ vs ‘X’ if you’d like). I’m mixed race. I don’t have a categorical placeholder. This is my chosen identifier. Futurism; adapting and adopting technology with no regard to traditional forms. Art born of modernity. I’m an NFT artist. Learning how to leverage blockchain to broadcast my ideas. Inspired by ancient and contemporary culture. Thank you if you made it this far. Link below.
