This is a good piece, @jemelehill.
But money is the least of the problems we face if females can’t compete in our own athletic fields.
While we celebrate @CaitlinClark22 & @Reese10Angel, in the pressing “what’s next?” that you posit, the answer is that women’s sports are being deleted.
We’re being disrupted, subjugated and erased by biological men. Again. Still.
There is slow creep from a corner of the country that is simultaneously betraying females and our achievements, while ensuring that eventually they will be no more.
It’s been only 52 years since women earned this right under Title XI - instituted by Pres. Nixon.
This isn’t a partisan issue. It’s a women’s rights issue. Only women uniting from all races & affiliations can protect what’s ours… the progress, the wins, the economic opportunity, the honor, the shattering of stereotypes, the educational value of scholarships… and preserve it for future generations of girls. Men aren’t going to do it for us.
If we don’t, the questions you raise in your column will most assuredly be moot. The ‘gatekeepers’ will no longer exist because there will be no gate left to keep.
