Happy 18th Anniversary to Metroid Prime 3!!! This is my 4th favorite Metroid game behind Prime, Super and Dread. What I love about this game is that it switched it up rather than doing the traditional one planet, multi layered labyrinth. Currently, it is still the most unique entry in the Metroid franchise but still maintains a lot of the core essence of Metroid!! (Unlike Other M) Skytown and the GFS Valhalla are the highlights. Thanks @jack_mathews for not killing Skytown😅

@kiwitalkz I’d reverse Primes 2 and 3. OG Metroid should not be below Other M.

@Sonikko06 @konjak PAL always had “clearer signals.” It was clearer because it had 20% more pixels and 20% less frame rate.

@konjak Metroid Prime devs discussing how they developed the game on a pretty bad 17 inches crt, I honestly think the argument is valid, although it is true that the output did vary a lot between TVs and for instance PAL CRTs usually had cleaner signals x.com/jack_mathews/s…

LCD’s were so not a thing that all of the movies (Front end, primarily) in Prime 1 were encoded as 640x224 interlaced. If the movie skipped a frame, we had to skip two frames otherwise we would be on the wrong interlace clock, and it would look completely screwed there on out.

I work with pixel art and I'm very ready to point out that when people claim the style was somehow meant for CRT they're forgetting there were many typea of them, and "upscale" CRT and their signals absolutely show the pixels

My memory surprises me when I remember making Metroid Prime with a little 14" CRT on my desk connected to a Dolphin devkit. CRT TVs were the the primary target for game. LCD display were still not generally available. Game does look great on LCDs too!

@SeTec9 This is worth diving into? I was wondering if so as snippets I've seen seemed very "kid show" focused. Sounds like I might need to give it a chance.

Just like when MPR was announced, MP4's announcement is causing a surge in my Retro Studios interviews again. It's interesting in hindsight to hear former Retro Studios devs talking about Prime 4 before its trailer release. youtu.be/mxx6tdLBgog

@ZoidCTF The worst is account number where you can send date to that but you can’t paste to the “verify number” field. So I just read what was pasted and type it.

Bank websites that disable the ability to paste into security fields make me angry. I use password and security managers that generate most of my security tokens. Not too mention the accessibility concerns. So frustrating.

@kiwitalkz It’s because big tech forced salaries up by like double, then games spending went up during the pandemic which seemed to validate those. Hard to blame management because hiring costs have just exploded.

@MetroidFREAK21 I could be wrong but I remembered reading once it was Nintendo that wanted the 3rd person but Retro wanted the first person view instead. They did a prototype I believe of Metroid Prime in first person and used that to persuade Miamoto which in the end got them that perspective.

Did you know? That Metroid Prime was originally going to be a 3rd person game, but Nintendo insisted on making it first person. Did you also know that missiles and way they come out of the arm cannon were totally different in development as far as very late 2001?

@kiwitalkz Legally, it's extremely difficult to lay full time staff off in Japan. Capcom will do it in America: igxpro.com/2013/07/11/cap… They also outsource a lot of their development, but you won't hear about canceled projects and prototypes from 3rd party devs that result in layoffs.

Why is it predominantly America where this happens, Nintendo and Capcom for example barely have layoffs. I can’t even imagine the anxiety this must cause devs😫 This is precisely why I interview devs, so people understand there are actual humans behind these games #layoffs
