Paul Finlayson, a well-liked, non-Jewish professor at a small Canadian university, was suspended, silenced, and ultimately lost his career after expressing support for Israel in a online exchange with a Pakistani fan of Hamas soon after October 7. He writes that the university removed him without clear charges, barred him from communicating with students or colleagues, and allowed false rumors to spread that he had committed violent acts and was arrested —all entirely fabricated. Another faculty member who had publicly expressed support for Hamas seems to have been instrumental in this nightmare. The university and union all turned against him without giving him even the chance to defend himself. The result was not just discipline, but reputational destruction. A longtime lecturer was isolated, silenced, defamed, and slandered. Finlayson may not be Jewish but this is a horrific story of extreme antisemitism where even expressing a pro-Israel opinion can be career-ending. See his full account here:. Oddly, if you submit an FOI request asking the Scottish Government for evidence that Scotland’s renewables are low-cost, or even just to identify a single low-cost generation asset, they have absolutely nothing. Because Swinney’s rhetoric is simply not true.

Scotland produces huge amounts of renewable energy, but the UK's broken energy system means people's bills are through the roof. Scotland's energy should work for the benefit of people, not Westminster. On May 7th, vote SNP for the fresh start of independence, with lower bills.

Drug deaths in Scotland are up 8%.
Glasgow opened a drug consumption room just over a year ago. The biggest rise in deaths is now in Glasgow itself. I ’ve just gone through the Scottish Drugs Forum’s 40-year anniversary discussion. It was meant to be a celebration.mWhat it actually reveals is something far more uncomfortable.
Not just about policy.
But about power.
About who shapes the narrative.
And about how difficult it has become to challenge a system from within it.
There’s a moment in it that stopped me cold.
“I didn’t really have much of a boss… three appraisals in 36 years.”
That tells you more than any strategy document ever could. If the same voices shape the policy, the funding and the story we tell ourselves about it…
Who exactly is holding the system to account?
I’ve written this as carefully and honestly as I can.
