*record scratch* This is outrageous! Netanyahu sought means other than bombing to deal with Hamas, sometimes even passing them signals??? How dare he! I am shocked! Flummoxed! Nonplussed, even.
It is hilarious how anti-Israel types treat this as some kind of smoking gun. They have created a cartoon character of Netanyahu as a warmonger and then pretend to be shocked that a leader of a country that’s been threatened for its entire existence would pursue backchannel means to deal with those threats. This is all basic statecraft.
If there’s any criticism here, it’s that Netanyahu didn’t do enough backchannelling to prevent the violent outcomes we saw on October 7.
