Southeast Asia is still an incredibly balanced region. Thailand and Indonesia are nearly tied in terms of their share of the region's 500 biggest companies. Vietnam aggressively rising, and unlike most of the region actually has a multi-city engine in terms of company distribution. KL as always, deeply underrated even in terms of business.

FOLLOWING THE PATH OF THEIR ANCESTORS Battling huge waves, twenty Austronesian men in orange lifejackets set off on a hand-carved longboat into the western Pacific Ocean, destined for the home of their ancestral kin for the first time in 300 years. The indigenous Tao people, native to the tiny Orchid Island 90 kilometres (56 miles) off Taiwan's southeast coast, have close cultural, linguistic and historic ties with the Philippines' Batanes islands and its Ivatan communities. Participants say the odyssey across the Bashi Channel will trace an ancestral sea route to strengthen longstanding traditional ties between the two communities. 📸 AFP/Cheng Yu-Chen Read: philstar.com/headlines/2026…

YESS TO THIS‼️I HAVE BEEN SAYING. Walang english. NO. Magtagalog kayong LAHAT.

Literally everyone deserves to go out for dinner, buy coffees, wear quality clothing and have fun experiences whilst also being able to afford rent, groceries, bills & have a little left over for savings no matter what job they do. Why is that so absurd to some people?

Kaya alam niyo bakit napaka out-of-touch ng mga anak ng politiko? International Schools doesn’t follow the Philippine/National curriculum that we normally follow. They use a more globally known system.

US troops in the Philippines aren't "defending" anything > they're turning a sovereign nation into the next Ukraine proxy against its #1 trading partner, China. History repeats: America colonized the PH, used concentration camps & torture (per their own State Dept records), then never really left. On Independence Day, Filipinos are right to chant "US troops out now." Prioritize development over endless US-driven militarization, or watch poverty & destruction deepen. Real independence means choosing your own path, not Washington's.
Brian Berletic@BrianJBerletic

The Philippines faces an existential threat. No, not "Chinese expansionism in the South CHINA Sea," but the fact the Philippines is LITERALLY OCCUPIED by US troops who are forcing the country to divert national resources from development to proxy war - into turning the Philippines into the "Ukraine" of Southeast Asia against China, the Philippines' largest trading partner. If the people of the Philippines do not reverse US occupation and oust the US client regime in power now - they will suffer a fate at least as bad as Ukraine. They are already suffering decades-spanning poverty because of their status as a proxy serving US interests at the expense of the Philippines' actual interests. Source - Manila Times: manilatimes.net/2026/06/12/vid… This is one the Philippines' Independence Day - guess who they gained independence from? The US - they were literally an outright colony of the US - when they first fought for independence against US occupation and control, the US instituted concentration camps and systematic torture - this according to the US State Department's OWN account: "The war was brutal on both sides. U.S. forces at times burned villages, implemented civilian reconcentration policies, and employed torture on suspected guerrillas..." sometimes I think about the Battle of Manila, the destruction it wrought, then the absolute greed that took over during reconstruction that paved way to the concrete monstrosity that is our city today and I weep

For those who want a bit more context: a massive student and worker protest is unfolding in Indonesia’s capital in response to the Prabowo government’s decision to raise fuel prices, alongside other policies that many Indonesians are calling corrupt because they deepen the burden on working-class Indonesians already struggling with rising living costs and a weakening rupiah. What’s fueling the anger even further is the broader feeling that economic pressure is being pushed downward onto ordinary people while major policy decisions continue to favour politicians and the ultra wealthy. Just last year, Indonesians protested over the same kind of government corruption, which led to a crackdown on its own civilians using military force in cities like Jakarta and Bandung, resulting in multiple deaths and injuries, including those of students. This situation, however, embarrassed the Probowo government, as people from all over the world began paying attention and massed mobilised to send food, medical/legal aid and financial donations via apps like Grab and Ojek (the region’s equivalent of Uber) the movement received particularly strong support from people across Asia, especially Southeast and East Asia, while also drawing contributions from around the world. This is why Indonesians are asking the world pay attention to their country again.
