Reminds me of my early career when I worked for a bank early in my career and we had the same thing (denim Friday) but we had to pay $10 for the privilege to wear jeans and then put a tag on so people know you paid your $10 and have permission to wear said jeans

It's Friday. Flashback memory when I worked at JP Morgan, I was SO looking forward to Fridays because... it was "dress down Friday!" Did not have to wear suit pants, suit shoes and a shirt for work, as a dev. Could wear jeans (but no T-shirts!) Put up with it because... money

be me got PhD in AI now building RAG apps spent years mastering deep neural networks now spend days yelling at PDF loaders “wtf why is my context limit smaller than my attention span” tried to explain RAG to parents dad thinks I’m selling rugs online now mom brags to neighbors about me working with “ChatGDP” clients ask why my GPT can’t remember their entire company history from one API call try explaining vector embeddings to sales guy he nods knowingly, says “so like Excel?” die a little inside every day decide to fine-tune model cloud bill goes up, accuracy goes down crying_in_vector_space.png finally deploy prototype first question from users: “Why does it keep hallucinating?” second question: “Can it make slides?” third question: “Can you just make it like ChatGPT?” mfw I realize PhD just stands for Prompt-hacking Depression maybe should’ve just sold rugs

This reminds me of many years ago when everyone was trying to build Google for Africa. IMO, there’s not much that will be unique about an AI for Nigeria/Africa that doesn’t already exist in the mainstream LLMs models. ChatGPT, LLama and the likes are great at African history, interpreting local languages and even speaking pidgin. I’ve seen some great effort from startups like @LelapaAI and @equalyz_ai focusing on African languages but I’ve also seen comparable models from ElevenLabs and others. If I was thinking of where AI for Africa could win, I would focus on intricacies like biomedical science/engineering, agriculture, smart city planning and other unique African xtics. Just my opinion though
