At GitLab Transcend, our team tackled challenges, fixed a broken pipeline, and resolved a security vulnerability in minutes.

Yesterday we wrapped GitLab Transcend, a global livestream event alongside 12 in-person gatherings around the world. It was a big moment for GitLab and our customers, with thousands of participants across the globe.
I’m really proud of the role my team played in making it real. The quality and scale of their contributions made this a highlight of my (long) tenure at GitLab. And I loved being able to collaborate closely on a complex project alongside the team. Special shout-out to @sugaroverflow and Cesar, who were key contributors.
Our Developer Advocacy team owned the demo featured in the livestream, enabled the demo staff for the regional events, and showed up on the ground to support a number of those locations. I was in NYC running demos with the local team, which was a lot of fun.
The livestream demo itself took a couple of weeks to come together. We ran multiple dry runs over Zoom, then did two in-person prep days in Oakland before recording. Thankfully it paid off. A lot of iteration, timing tweaks, and last-minute adjustments went into making it feel smooth on camera.
After that wrapped, we shifted to enabling demo staff around the world. This meant helping them get comfortable with the demo app, new product features, new talking points, and preparing for the inevitable “what if this breaks?” scenarios that come with live events.
Huge thanks to our customers for making this possible, everyone on my team for your contributions, and to our partners across engineering, product, marketing, and sales who pulled this together across many time zones. These kinds of launches only work when a lot of people do their part behind the scenes.
On to the next thing.

@BeezyManzell @ToddFuhrman I didn’t talk about rankings. Non-con games are already meaningless.
English

@john_cogs @ToddFuhrman Because rankings are poll based, 'preseason' is meaningless. It'll take approximately 0.1 seconds for someone to think Ohio State take looked better against Northeast Ohio Tech than Oklahoma looked against Wichita St and give them a higher ranking.
English

Let's solve the CFB eligibility problem here in 1 tweet
1) Every player gets 5 years of eligibility; eliminate red shirts
2) Every player is draft eligible when he turns 18; he has the choice to go pro or play college but the team that drafted him owns his rights
3) Players lose CFB eligibility the moment they take a snap in any professional league (NFL, UFL, etc)
English

@BigDMharv @ToddFuhrman The team remains owned by the college and supported by the college and donors. There 45% turnover could be addressed with new rules around compensation but not without major changes (like the ones I suggested ) to the current model.
English

@john_cogs @ToddFuhrman When teams have an average turnover rate of 45% of new players every year then it's literally no longer a team . You're pulling for a uniform and not a team
English

@CRUEL_K1D @ToddFuhrman I think that keeping the teams on campus, giving students and alums access to the games, allowing donors to be involved, etc will be enough to maintain the connection.
English

@john_cogs @ToddFuhrman The further it strays from the actual universities, the more the interest level will drop. If you don’t have connection to the universities, all you have is an amateur football league. Every single variation of an amateur football league has failed miserably
English

@BuckeyeAnon @ToddFuhrman > just make it professional sports so common sense can start to prevail
That is what I said.
“Just call the big programs what they are: donor/community-funded professional sports.”
English

@john_cogs @ToddFuhrman Yeah, and it’s dumb. You thought I was going to be some biased homer? This model is dumb. Your solution doesn’t solve anything. Stop trying to make the donation model work and just make it professional sports so common sense can start to prevail.
English

@BuckeyeAnon @ToddFuhrman > why should any pro sports team be “community funded”
Who do you think is footing the bill for the Buckeyes roster?
English

@john_cogs @ToddFuhrman Everyone says no, because why should any pro sports team be “community funded”? Thats a terrible take. Just cut the b.s. and start a second pro league to rival the NFL, and operate it like a true business. Enough with this “donation” based model.
English

@NYPost_Brazille Anyone following this team would agree. Also seems pretty clear who are the two best guards.
English

Big three of Mitchell, Hopkins and Ejiofor combined for 43 points, 21 rebounds and 10 assists. Think that three-forward lineup is here to stay. #sjubb
