@john_tipper you mean putting hexagons everywhere? Djordje Babic just did that and swears by it, he wrote it up in his substack (i dont hve the ref handy)

tech note from a friend: "I was teaching ports and adapters to my coachee, as we were about to use Claude to migrate the app. We asked it for a directory structure, to which it responded with: - `domain` - `adapters/inbound` and `adapters/outbound` /1

@TotherAlistair I think this could be a very cool blog post! Would love to see a practical example showing this.

I love the idea of LLMs offering Hexagonal as the default architecture :)

@adamhjk How does a CLI solve for input parameters that are structured? MCP gives strong typing, CLI is only going to cause the LLM to guess at the shape of an input based on a weakly typed example from the —help flag or error message, no?

@AdamRackis You should look at the writings of @swardley here: IIRC he called out the direction of travel a year or more ago. Access to big, powerful, expensive AI is going to be a social marker, in the way that an inside bathroom vs shared outhouse did in late Victorian era.

Man. The era of a young, poor—but scrappy and energetic—young kid grinding and learning to code as a path to a good living may be over 😔 It would be so gross if a subscription to an expensive tool became required to learn how to do this professionally

Good news guys, Sonnet 4.5 would only be like $500 a month when the VC bucks dry up. Opus would only cost $3000-$15,000 bucks a month, unless you use Ralph and then it'll be way more. Keep in mind this is one instance. You all starting to see the problem yet?

@AdamRackis I’m finding Rust Rover hangs and needs restarting. Also each Jetbrains IDE I use (Python, Rust, Go, Webstorm) wants up to 4 GB each. Bit flaky, really. I think this might be the year I finally move to VSCode and cancel my pro subscription and save disk space and cash.

I spent an hour debugging why IntelliJ wasn't recognizing some imports that were valid. Debugged for an hour with AI. Senior Java engineer suggested I just restart the IDE and ... it worked. What absolute dogshit software how do Java engineers live like this

A friend told me that now that they've had a child, her husband can't bear to watch movies in which bad things happen to kids. Same here. That was one of the most surprising things about having children. You're not just protective of your own children, but children in general.

@adamdrwatts @defencewithac Here he is some years later as my wingman in another sandy paradise admiring the results of his textbook dust landing. No, its undercarriage is not supposed to bend like that and it’s not supposed to need packing crates to not fall over. “Don’t worry, it’ll buff out”.

There's a weird sub genre of UK defence commentary where people seem to think the armed forces are basically just completely inept and not capable of any kind of operation beyond changing the King's guard.

@adamdrwatts @defencewithac That’s how, back in mid 2004, I learned in quick succession that REPUBLICAN and GOTEAMBUSH are both valid SARNEGs and WOMANHATER is a valid formation callsign.
