Spotted in the grounds! We just saw a lovely Irish red squirrel darting through the trees. Did you know, red squirrels thrive in coniferous, deciduous, and mixed woodlands. Keep an eye out next time you’re wandering the woods, you might just spot one of these cute creatures.

Did you know @johnstowncastle is home to one of Ireland’s longest servants’ tunnels? Running an impressive 86 metres beneath the estate, it reflects the engineering & social customs that shaped 19th-century life - a unique glimpse into the work that powered the estate.

This is an servant's bell indicator box. These devices were once a vital part of grand homes during the late 19th century. When a bell was rung from one of the rooms, a corresponding flag on the board would drop or move to show which room required service. #johnstowncastle
