@AuthorGFAllen Honestly? Probably not. I didn't think anyone but my family would read my first book, and I still wrote it. But I wouldn't be banging my head writing book after book if no one was reading them.

@AuthorAltoft A chapter is just as long as it needs to be. No longer, no shorter. I have one chapter that is three words long, because that's all it needed to be to convey the information. For the record, that book has done quite well, so the readers don't seem to have an issue with it.

Writers and readers, I have a question Would you care if a chapter was only 1 or 2 pages along, due it serving it's purpose? Or would you find that pointless and wish it was longer to justify the title of "chapter" Question relates to my current WIP. Thank you. #AuthorLife

@Pismo_B Japanese toilets are great. But you can also use a bum gun as well, which look like the sprayers you have alongside your kitchen sink. We installed those in our house. You still need some TP, however, for the final touch for both the Japanese toilet and bum gun.

@crosbyking77 @vinquezada1 I almost grabbed his hat when they came to play the AAA Iowa Oaks, but he was too quick for me, just like he was on the diamond.

@DibbleTiki @SouthDallasFood I like the main meat medium rare, but the rib cap more well done and full of flavor. At the Bellagio buffet, I used to ask for that portion (the chefs cut it out and trashed it). For cooking at home, I do the 500 degrees for five minutes a pound, then turn the oven off method.

@Mark_Pear @SeosQuinn True. I just did the same route over New Year from the Springs to Vegas. I've often stopped for food in Las Vegas, NM. The people there said they always have a few tourists who are disappointed with "Vegas" and want to know where the casinos are.

More details have emerged on Matthew Livelsberger. And together, this whole story stinks. He was divorced from his first wife (brown hair in previous article) sometime after 2016. At some point thereafter, he remarried this woman. And had a child with her.

I reposted this earlier, but I just said it was a great book. It really is, but in addition, it is a unique and refreshing read. I love this take on alien-human interaction and how it explores the weighty role of noninterference by an observer. Please, give it a shot.

Interesting. I write military scifi. Book 5 in my current series actually has the least amount of military action, but it's getting great reviews. This book is heavier on the characters and overall arc. I assumed the readers would have wanted more action. #WritingCommunity

@mcahogarth @old_jester1968 I still think SFWA, despite problems, does quite a bit of good. That's why I'm a member. And as the CFO, I can make my voice heard. Do I think there are issues? Sure. But I can't change anything from the outside. (I'm not saying your reasons for quitting aren't valid.)

@old_jester1968 I still wish it could be rescued. I hoped that making it open to indies would help. But there were some significant culture issues, and I doubt they've been resolved. By now all the indies that might have changed things want nothing to do with it. :(

I still get questions from people who think I dropped out as SFWA's VP and from its presidential race because of dire health issues. I didn't have a health issue. I left because of people like the girl who accosted me at the Nebula Conference while I was talking to two vendor reps, so she could have a (real, not kidding) crying fit at me about how threatening I was, and how if I became president I would oppress the minorities in SFWA (note: I am three kinds of minority myself), and how that was unbearable and I was a bad person and shouldn't be running. I had a discussion with my family not long after and their advice rung in my heart like a bell that's still echoing, years later: "You should only be running if you're willing to serve the best interests of the members of SFWA." And I realized I could not, lovingly and honestly, serve people like that girl, and the people she brought as emotional support when she came to confront me. At the time, I thought it was only about that girl. But when I relayed this incident to people I thought of as friends, they said, "Oh, how strange... she's not normally like that! I'm sure she's under a lot of strain." In retrospect, I understand now that my friends would never have seen that yes, people like that girl are "normally like that"...to people who disagree with them. Since my friends agreed with them, they never saw that side of their acquaintances and friends. And they would never defend or help me, thus. I loved SFWA, despite its many flaws, and regret I couldn't remain part of it. But it's not an ideologically diverse or welcoming organization, and not all my efforts to change that made a particle of difference. (Perhaps the saddest thing, looking back, is the off-hand comment one of the vendor reps said to me after I apologized for the scene: "Oh, we've worked with artists for a long time. We're used to it.")
