Important article in the @dailymirror, which includes reference to my letter to Roman Abramovich urging him to release the more than £2.5bn he received from the sale of Chelsea FC - money he agreed with the previous government would be spent on supporting victims in Ukraine. One important fact now acknowledged in all the media coverage is the direct link Abramovich's lawyers are making between his litigation in Jersey related to assets, and the Chelsea FC money release. Why then the continued silence from the Tory Shadow Attorney General who continues to represent Abramovich? You can read it here: mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…

90 days ago the Prime Minister rightly issued a deadline to my former constituent Roman Abramovich to release more than £2.5 billion from the sale of Chelsea FC for Ukraine today. We know Abramovich has not done so, and media reports suggest he is linking the release of these funds to ongoing litigation in Jersey. We know Abramovich's Jersey legal team includes the Shadow Attorney-General Lord Wolfson. Why has Lord Wolfson still not commented on the Jersey-Chelsea link, and why has he published no detail on his apparent recusal from advising Kemi Badenoch - a fact strangely omitted from his only public comment on this issue?

Too many are too polite to say this. But mass ritual prayer in public places is an act of domination. The adhan - which declares there is no god but allah and Muhammad is his messenger - is, when called in a public place, a declaration of domination. Perform these rituals in mosques if you wish. But they are not welcome in our public places and shared institutions. And given their explicit repudiation of Christianity they certainly do not belong in our churches and cathedrals. I am not suggesting everybody at Trafalgar Square last night is an Islamist. But the domination of public places is straight from the Islamist playbook. Trafalgar Square belongs to all of us. It is a national memorial to our independence and our salvation. Last night was not like a televised football match or a St Patrick’s Day celebration. It was an act of domination and therefore division. It shouldn’t happen again.

Last night the Grenfell Memorial passed through the House of Commons, giving the authority for the Government to provide the funding for a fitting memorial and it's upkeep, in addition to an archive and exhibition. I gave a speech covering the many unresolved issues relating to the tragedy, including ensuring all Inquiry recommendations are implemented and securing the future of the Lancaster West estate. This important Times investigation shows the extent of the London property empire owned by figures close to the Iranian regime, including in Kensington & Bayswater. I know the Government will rightly be considering what sanctions need to be put on these properties, but this also reinforces the need for an accurate and open register of foreign property ownership with no loopholes for trusts. I welcome yesterday’s announcement that the Ethics and Integrity Commission will conduct a review into reforms to strengthen our democracy, including overdue tightening of lobbying rules. This is something I have advocated for over many years in light of the Greensill/David Cameron scandal and others. This is a moment where we need to strengthen openness, transparency, and public participation in our democracy - including greater use of citizens’ assemblies like the welcome one announced by the government on Monday on digital ID.

I’m deeply concerned at media reports that the new Ayatollah has a London property empire including in Kensington & Bayswater. It’s vital sanctions are urgently considered - and this is an example of the importance of an accurate foreign property register to clamp down on dirty money in our capital.

@neiljeffares Hi Neil - I think it's reasonable to conclude that any leader of any country is unlikely to be able to afford a luxury property empire in London on their official salary. As you know, I call out dirty money in London property from many regimes across the world.

Yesterday’s vote to remove hereditary peers from the House of Lords marks a major step forward for a fairer, more accountable democracy. No one should hold power in Parliament simply because of the family they were born into. This is a significant moment for transparency and democratic reform. Ending hereditary peers brings us closer to a Parliament where every voice is earned, not inherited.

I've long thought that we must do more to protect children from online harms, whether that is content on social media or times spent on screens, instead of play, reading and other activities that are what childhood should be all about. It was great to meet Zack George - AKA Steel from Gladiators - today with Smartphone Free Childhood campaigners to discuss how he is using his platform with young people to engage on this issue.
