There are no investigations so far suggesting the scaffolding caused the fire. The bamboo angle has been widely used by state media in China. When global outlets adopt this framing uncritically, it distracts the public from questions of corruption & accountability.
Chung Ching Kwong 鄺頌晴@chungchingkwong

The “bamboo scaffolding caused the fire” narrative is not only factually wrong, it reflects a prejudice against in-situ craft and HK's own construction traditions. The fire started with the netting. The bamboo is still intact. We deserve better reporting. @BBCWorld

Powerful read: Jimmy Lai’s letters from prison to his beloved daughter Claire. “If we let our comfort and safety take precedence over the value of good and evil, evil will prevail over our life, our life shall be empty, boring and meaningless. Truth and justice must stand above our comfort and well-being, otherwise our lives will be lived with “a millstone hung on our neck.” thetimes.com/article/664df4…

Staff, journalists, and producers I’ve worked with, am friends with, and admire are just asking for a liveable wage and basic job security, but management has rejected it. This is a dangerous direction for public interest journalism in australia

The news coverage on ABC today feels poor - mostly wire content, not enough interviews, and missing context in places. But it’s also a reminder that the good content don’t come from nowhere. They come from journos dealing with long hours, stress, and insecure, underpaid work.
MEAA@withMEAA

We congratulate our brave ABC members all across the country for standing up for secure, fair and sustainable jobs. Share this post to show your support. #QualityNewsQualityJobs

Under AUKUS and the “ force posture agreement” we are paying for and providing public housing in WA for US marines who are being indoctrinated into this dangerous religious garbage! At the same time disadvantaged Australians are homeless, couch surfing, or living in cars or tents

And yes, I am aware that Shen Yun is connected to the Falun Gong cult. But let’s focus on the accuracy of the language and framing here, because that matters. The dog-whistle xenophobia is obvious.

Horrified at violence in Sydney, but unsurprised- NSW police have a tainted presence at Mardi Gras, in Indigeous communities, in mental health- not to mention the unlawful strip searches, even on minors, which went on for YEARS. They have a deeply entrenched culture problem.

Today, my father was convicted simply for being my father. This is how the Hong Kong government retaliates against me and my pro-democracy advocacy. This is hostage taking. This is transnational repression.

There are at least 2.3 million landlords in Australia…...When interest rates were rising and Australia's rental vacancy rates were at record lows, there were concerns that landlords could easily pass on higher repayments to their tenants. abc.net.au/news/2026-02-0…
