In 2009, retired police officer Warren Nyerges and his wife Maureen paid $165,000 cash for a home in Naples, Florida. Despite there being no mortgage, Bank of America wrongfully filed for foreclosure. The couple sued and won a $2,500 judgment for legal fees, which the bank ignored for months. In June 2011, the couple showed up at the local branch with a Sheriff’s deputy and a moving truck, prepared to seize the bank's furniture and cash to satisfy the debt. The bank manager quickly cut them a check.
