A rare pygmy hippopotamus has been born at Berlin Zoo — and it has been named “Bun”
The baby was born on May 9 to female Debbie and male Tobi. At birth, the hippo weighed 5.9 kilograms, and has now grown to about 20 kilograms. Zoo staff are gradually getting the youngster used to water.
Pygmy hippos lead a solitary lifestyle, so the mother will raise the calf on her own, Reuters reports.
In the wild, there are only about 2,500 adult individuals of this species left.
