Jean-Pierre Adams, a former French football player, has remained in a comatose state for 39 years after mistakenly being administered a potentially lethal dose of anaesthetic in 1982. Currently 73 years old, Adams has not regained consciousness since the incident. This tragic event occurred a year after Adams retired from football, when he underwent a routine surgery at a hospital in Nice to repair a ruptured knee ligament. The intention of the administered anaesthetic was to induce a temporary state of unconsciousness lasting only a few hours. Born in Dakar, Senegal, Adams relocated to France at the age of 10.
