If any of my teachers or mentors had told me, “Abby, you’re not cut out for this,” I think I would have listened. I think it’s important to remember the power of our words and reserve judgement about newcomers in science, and in higher education in general.

I received truly humbling recognition today as I was awarded Junior Scientist of the Year at Loyola.

My newest headshot and my headshot from when I started at @LoyolaCaMP almost 8 years ago. A little more grey, but I still come to work excited about the same things: the science, my trainees, and my colleagues at @LoyolaChicago.

Can P. aeruginosa adopt an intracellular lifestyle? In #JBacteriology, researchers review studies that observe intracellular P. aeruginosa in vitro, as well as contextualize these findings with the few studies that report similar observations in vivo. asm.social/1P7

Our hope is that this will spur more investigation into this phenomenon. Intracellular P. aeruginosa has been observed in animal models and recently also lungs of cystic fibrosis patients, but it remains uncertain if it contributes to disease severity or treatment resistance.

We wrote a minireview on the studies that observed intracellular Pseudomonas aeruginosa, now out in @JBacteriology ! When we set out to do this, we thought there were about 40-some papers, but we found just over 100!
