出向先で成果が無事にリリースされました…。怒涛の1年でした💦 特に3月は逼迫してたので、数日間はゆっくりとします。 熊活もぼちぼちと本調子に戻していきますね。

冬眠から目覚め、徐々に外に慣らし中のニホンツキノワグマのメス“姫”と“リオ”。はじめは、特に“姫”が出たがらない日が続きましたが、気温も高くなり、扉を開けるとすぐに外に出るようになりました。お天気もしばらく安定しているようなので、3月27日（金）から通常通り展示を再開する予定です。

Grizzly Gulch reopened just in time for World Bear Day! Since late Fall, our grizzly bear sisters, Kiona and Kachina, and our black bears, Juneau and Valdez, have been in torpor, that natural period when bears expend less energy. During winter months, instead of going into full hibernation, brown and black bears go into torpor, which is a time of lower activity and metabolic rates. During torpor, our bears would choose whether they want to explore their habitat or sleep in their dens. Kiona and Kachina were given access to the Gulch, and this morning, on a beautiful sunny day, with the pool water glistening and a new giant reflective ball to play with, the girls came out…and chomped on fresh grass. It was only later that they enjoyed their pool! As for Juneau and Valdez, caretakers gave them an especially tasty treat – worms in old, rotted logs, that the bears instantly destroyed! Worms are a great source of protein, and the bears loved digging their claws through the termite-eaten logs to find them. Happy World Bear Day!🐻
