@lapiscomics That’s because since the 90s, US comics have been targeting collectors and speculators (rather than ordinary readers) as their target market. 40 years later, it hasn’t really helped grow their market as this crowd is aging out.

What makes a good manga? According to sine who’ve been a manga award judge: “Story 80%, art 20%. Everyone knows that drawing skills improve after a year of serialization. But storytelling comes from the “accumulation of what you’ve seen and experienced,” so it doesn’t grow easily.” So being an older mangaka isn’t a disadvantage. Younger mangaka may have more energy, but they also tend to be more generic. The best creatives are always the ones who have had interesting life experiences and therefore interesting perspectives!

『絵が上手いのに賞に落ちる理由、知ってる?』 漫画賞の審査員やってた側から一言。 TL見てると、 『絵を上手くなりたい』って話ばかり流れてくる。 でもね―― 👉絵が上手くても、話がつまらなければ落ちる。 👉絵が未熟でも、心を動かせば通る。 これが本質。 審査基準は体感で 物語80%、絵20%。 なぜか? 絵は連載を1年もすれば上手くなる、 ってみんな知ってる。 でも、 物語は“見て来た物の蓄積”が出るから 簡単に伸びない。と言うのも知ってるから。 つまり―― 👉絵を描く時間の一部を、 映画や漫画の“構造分析”に回す。 それだけで一段上に行くよ。 64歳の元漫画家。 #ワイの漫画家物語 【第九話】noteにて公開中〜🙌

@queeniechanhere Here in american comics it is a lot of variant covers for issues. Old ways but that is the market. Story is far more time consuming than most give credit to.

Story is far harder than art. I understand why people who love drawing get annoyed when the average reader, who cares about drawing a lot less than they do, cares about story. That is what really upsets the art crowd. The fact that the average non-art person are there mostly for the story. Manga publishers know that.

🚨BREAKING: Allegedly a Group of white girls deliberately provoked this Black man by calling him the n-word on purpose to make him react. They already had the gun loaded and ready the second he responded they opened fire trying to k*ll him. One of them was caught on audio saying “I should pop this n*gga.” THOUGHTS?
