STATE OF JUDICIARY | Vijay Shah, a cabinet minister in Madhya Pradesh, made derogatory and communal remarks against Colonel Qureshi, calling her the “sister of terrorists,” simply because she was one of the faces of the press briefings on Operation Sindoor. Justice Atul Sreedharan of the Madhya Pradesh High Court took suo motu notice and directed the police to file an FIR. What followed was a deliberately weak and vague FIR. The court slammed the state police, calling it a “gross subterfuge” meant to protect the minister. Soon after, Justice Sreedharan was transferred by the collegium to Chhattisgarh. The Government then stepped in and pushed for his transfer to the Allahabad High Court. And Vijay Shah continues as a cabinet minister. The message being sent to the judiciary is clear: act against BJP leaders, and there will be consequences.

Even setting aside legal doctrine, the basic question of investigation remains: what exactly is being proved? There is no strong evidence to suggest that any food was thrown into the river. This raises a more fundamental question—can eating or breaking one’s fast on a boat constitute a criminal offence? Strangely, bail was denied despite no direct evidence or recovery of any chicken remains from the site. @legallyuddin writes. Read the full piece: thequint.com/opinion/varana…

And when a judge gives bail, his jurisdiction is taken and baseless investigation reports fly around. There are orders of the SC also where bail has been granted without reasons.

Calling Dhurandhar 2 a ‘verdict’ or some revolution in cinema is exactly the kind of overreaction that proves how easily hype replaces logic. One film doesn’t suddenly end decades of filmmaking styles, it just creates noise for a few weeks. Let’s stick to facts. This isn’t some groundbreaking shift in storytelling. It still relies on dramatized real events, simplified narratives, and heavy background scoring to manufacture intensity. The so called ‘realism’ you’re praising is still selectively written, conveniently paced, and designed to keep audiences emotionally hooked and not intellectually engaged. And this idea that it has ‘killed’ other cinema? That’s just fanboy exaggeration. Every industry has cycles and mass entertainers, grounded films, experimental projects and they all coexist. One overhyped release doesn’t bury anything, it just rides current trends. What’s actually embarrassing is how people are mistaking loud presentation and aggressive marketing for depth and innovation. Calling it a masterclass, a revolution, or a ‘verdict’ doesn’t make it one, it just exposes how low the bar has dropped for calling something great. This isn’t the death of other cinema. It’s just another film being carried by hype, with fans acting like it reinvented the wheel HENCE PROVED

So what if they are all similar worded? Bail orders are not rocket science unless the state can show the exception to the rule should apply. Perhaps the Indian Express should hire some competent legal reporters for once.
Anant Goenka@anantgoenka

Last month, an Allahabad HC judge Justice Pankaj Bhatia got severely criticized by the SC for granting bail in a dowry death case. The SC described his order in favor of the accused as “shocking and disappointing.” After the SC’s remarks, Justice Bhatia asked to be removed from hearing dowry death cases. Now, an @IndianExpress investigation reveals that between Oct–Dec 2025, he heard *510 dowry death bail pleas and granted bail in 508 — nearly all*, with many orders similar in structure and wording. indianexpress.com/article/expres…
