His name is Vishnu Tiwari. In 2000 a neighbour accused him of rape after a land dispute. He was 23 years old. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2003. His appeal filed from jail in 2005 was marked defective and ignored for 16 years. During those 20 years his father died. His mother died. His two brothers died. He was denied parole to attend a single funeral. The family sold their land and buffaloes to pay legal costs. In January 2021 the Allahabad High Court acquitted him. Zero medical evidence of rape. The complainant’s motive was a land dispute. He walked out of Agra Central Jail with Rs 600. He was 43 years old. His first question to the world was: How do I start life at 43?
