And I can see why it might be this way. When you aren’t touching any pads, Z is at a 0 value and therefore might really mess with some of your instruments.

Ah, it was just disabled by default. Although it automatically appeared on the third macro, I had to manually assign it to that macro (or another one) for it to become active. Seems like XY are the only ones active by default.

New @Ableton 12.3 feature XYZ is great but why is Z disabled (gray, not usable) every time I try to use it? Push Expression Mode is set to MPE. What else am I missing?
