@cooptonian I seldom use Twitter (never 'X'), these days preferring Mastodon, but keen to let you know that I'm been very grateful for your superb Authentik videos! Wondering if you'd consider a video on specifying custom user attributes, eg selecting a country of origin on registration...

Just listening to @radionz and @NZMorningReport and fully encourage Wanaka to give the McDonalds Corporation the fingers. I think it'd be great if more (all) communities did. There're quite a few other corporations peddling 'food-like-substances' who're worthy of rejection.

@roaming_rn I have few regrets about leaving the US. Their brand of conservative Christians seem to be among the world's worst people.

🤡The World according to Megan Rapinoe. MEgan claims her achilles injury proves God doesn’t exist. Some may find her career ending injury definitive proof that God does exist🤷‍♀️

@PCBioCaptain @nypost I'd say that "those who 'believe' will almost certainly be deeply disappointed". The christian god is a human invention, and an embarrassingly dull, uncompelling one at that.

@BrendanMcInnis @nypost What does it mean to be 'not normally a believer'? Only on special occasions? Seems like being a believer (fair-weather or otherwise) is an idiotic thing that lots of people in the US do. In most of the pleasant places in the world, believer numbers are plummeting.

There’s a very simple reason National have been releasing their policies so late in the campaign. They might look attractive at first glance, but any deeper analysis shows how bad they will be for NZ, but great for a few. Luxon doesn’t want you to “overthink it”. You know why.

My Dad used to vote National, more recently has voted Labour, but I could have cried when he proudly told me that he's just party voted @NZGreens for the first time. Incredible when I think back at the arguments we used to have 30 years ago. It's never too late. 💚💚🙏

#BREAKING in Newshub’s final pre-election polling the Greens are on 14.9%, & NINETEEN MPs in Parliament. The Green wave is here. It’s happening. The most important thing now is that everyone goes out and VOTES. The time is now.

Hah. Xwitter is so pathetic now. I haven't even been here for months. The Fediverse is where it's happening. Smarter people saying far more sensible things. Xwitter, you're enshittification is now almost complete. I encourage the few remaining clever folk among you: abandon ship.

The #NZGreens should spank National for their idiotic (and totally inappropriate) slogan "Get NZ back on track". Ugh. National hates tracks, be they rail, bike, or walking. No. The love *roads*. They want to 'Keep NZ in traffic'. See more: @lightweight/111003309171472410" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">mastodon.nzoss.nz/@lightweight/1…

Open, local community run, and decentralised first, closed, profit-motivated, and centralised second (if at all). That's the way to do social media. Please demonstrate that you're listening and learning @LGNZ and @nzgovt_edu

a NEMA official Mastodon instance that they can post to for everyone in the Fediverse. Given that their alert are broadcasts (not expecting responses) they can then set up auto-tweeting (to the extent that Twitter allows it is functional) for the laggards still here. 2/2

So if our gov't is using Twitter as a critical disaster management tool - rnz.co.nz/news/national/… - it needs to realise Twitter is an unreliable foreign tech. Why not use local (onshore in Aotearoa) tech, run by NZers. Many of us are already in the Fediverse, why not have 1/2

As @mmasnick points out on in the Fediverse (@mmasnick/110133617542051841" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">mastodon.social/@mmasnick/1101…) this strange article newint.org/features/2023/… wonders about decentralised, non-profit alternative to centralised, profit-driven social media. He mentions Mastodon at the end, but implies it's not viable. Wut?

@elpie Sorry to hear you had that experience. Based on my experience you were very unlucky. Within the Fediverse (of which Mastodon is just a part) you can move among community-run services without losing your 'status'. Which makes it infinitely superior to Twitter.

Ok, so it's abundantly clear to us all by now that Twitter is a depraved cesspit of maladaptive human interaction. If we're honest with ourselves, we also know there's no way it'll change for the better. Given systemically better alternatives, why are people still here?
