“This is something I should have been able to handle myself, so I don’t want to make excuses, but to simply explain: since I was in the final group, the ice had a lot of marks from other skaters’ edges and toe picks. When I went into the Axel, my edge got caught in those marks. The direction my body was going into and the edge didn’t line up, so I ended up being thrown off like that. I could see the previous skater’s path, so if I had stayed a bit calmer, I think I could have handled it myself. That’s something I just have to accept. I’ll try to convince myself of that and do my best starting from tomorrow.” —How did you honestly feel at the moment the mistake happened? 
“When I was setting up the jump, I could see some marks on the ice and thought, ‘Will I be okay?’—I was a bit worried. And then I indeed got caught on them. It felt like a flashback or slow motion, all blurry. But surprisingly, I was able to stay calm from the step sequence onwards. I managed to switch my mindset, and I think I was able to bring out the true strengths of my program after that. When I checked just now, I saw that I received high grades there, so I think that’s the result of practice.” (1/5)
