@cammakingminds @Borednboring55 @Clocked0 “I’d kill everyone on earth to save myself.” “You have some kind of hang up about killing people to benefit yourself.”

English

@m0rdecaiCS @Borednboring55 @Clocked0 I got it when I was a baby. You have some kind of hangup around killing people to benefit yourself or your interests. That is my entire point. That's the point of the trolley problem. It confuses those who don't have a coherent relationship with their own morality.
English

People who get tripped up by the trolley problem are intellectually disabled. Killing 5 people is worse than killing 1 person actually.

Imagine if people in Europe had to take this exam every time they activated Tesla FSD.
English

@m0rdecaiCS @Borednboring55 @Clocked0 This is retarded. I would kill everyone on earth besides those I care about to save myself. You are experiencing some kind of malfunction if you think this image should be meaningful.
English

@Borednboring55 @cammakingminds @Clocked0 They only understand pictures. But I’d hope they’d at least stay consistent with their logic.

English

@cammakingminds @Clocked0 @m0rdecaiCS Well yes, you both fail to understand the point of the problem.
English

@Nolan39566917 @Tj55782 @LetoAtreides99 @CORECTION101 @Tom_Heal @cammakingminds What are you telling me? 5 is bigger than 1 numerically? Woah
English

@m0rdecaiCS @Tj55782 @LetoAtreides99 @CORECTION101 @Tom_Heal @cammakingminds You're actually just sort of an Idiot that either refuses or is incapable of grasping what people are telling you
English

@Nolan39566917 @Tj55782 @LetoAtreides99 @CORECTION101 @Tom_Heal @cammakingminds Self driving cars already distinguish the difference between sizes. Hit 2 full grown adults or a child half their size. This isn’t hard to consider. But stick to cartoons ig they’re easier
English

@m0rdecaiCS @Tj55782 @LetoAtreides99 @CORECTION101 @Tom_Heal @cammakingminds Is your answer to the hypothetical then that the car should be equipped with the capability to estimate biographic details about people in case a crash is unavoidable to then decide who deserves to live? That seems crazy. 5>1 is all the calculation the car should do here
English

@Nolan39566917 @Tj55782 @LetoAtreides99 @CORECTION101 @Tom_Heal @cammakingminds 5 > 1 is all it represents. Reality has more factors. You look at strangers and can guess their age. That alone is more information that is impossible to ignore and isn’t capture in a cartoon that you take so literally
English

@m0rdecaiCS @Tj55782 @LetoAtreides99 @CORECTION101 @Tom_Heal @cammakingminds "There is not one answer to every imaginable situation" is not a statement worth making. And again, even if it was, this is about this iteration of the problem being trivially easy to solve. I do not know how you can not understand this while accusing others
English

@Nolan39566917 @Tj55782 @LetoAtreides99 @CORECTION101 @Tom_Heal @cammakingminds This is the point of the trolley problem. You don’t understand it
English

@m0rdecaiCS @Tj55782 @LetoAtreides99 @CORECTION101 @Tom_Heal @cammakingminds Do you not understand that these are all differnet questions with different answers. You cant tell someone that a problem is actually very complex becaue you can make up a new one.
English

@Tj55782 @LetoAtreides99 @CORECTION101 @Tom_Heal @cammakingminds This is exactly what the trolley problem represents! You understand it
English

@LetoAtreides99 @m0rdecaiCS @CORECTION101 @Tom_Heal @cammakingminds I wonder how the convo would go if we slowly kept tightening the age gap lol.
Two 70 year olds or a 5 year old?
Two 60 year olds or a 10 year old?
Two 50 year olds or a 15 year old?
I'd start tripping up at two 40 year olds vs one 20 year old.
English

@Dayerino @TheEvilResid3nt @cammakingminds The trolley problem is dealing with human lives. Not numbers on a page. U fail to recognize that from the start which is where u don’t understand. Congrats u know 2 > 1. fascinating insight.
English

@m0rdecaiCS @TheEvilResid3nt @cammakingminds you cant ask me what's 1 + 1 and when i answer 2 you say my answer is wrong because i didnt see the +2 which you omitted (in this case making the people pedophiles after the question has been answered)
English

@TheEvilResid3nt @cammakingminds Thought experiments require thoughts
English

@m0rdecaiCS @cammakingminds U sound so fucking insufferable to be around
English

@m0rdecaiCS @cammakingminds Its presented in every Intro to Philosophy course in the country. Trolleys predate memes and the internet.
However, the thought experiment does, in fact, extend to “is the choice of inaction the same as the choice of action?” and, inevitably, “is inaction, in fact, action?”
English

@CORECTION101 @Tom_Heal @cammakingminds Idk the best but simply, Do you let two elderly people die or choose to kill one small child to save them
English

@m0rdecaiCS @Tom_Heal @cammakingminds Why don’t you bring your best representation of the question and let’s see if it is as hard as you think it is.
English

@Tom_Heal @cammakingminds Im not. You don’t understand the problem either. A simple cartoon doesn’t capture the context of reality where these situations arise. Faceless no identity cartoons. On roads that don’t extend past the page.
English

@m0rdecaiCS @cammakingminds you can't just weave when you don't like an answer bro.
It's true there is no one answer, and you can always manipulate the question to get the diff answer (eg, it's five hitlers), but the q was specifically the one in the picture. You'd kill the one. Inaction is a choice
English

@cammakingminds The typically presented is a meme on the internet bro. A meme. If thats the only thought you can experiment with then the correct answer is let the 5 die because they’re cartoons with no identity. Choice doesn’t exist.
English

@m0rdecaiCS Then discussions about it should include explicit labels about the peoples ages history and relationship to the lever-puller. As typically presented, it is a non-question. Choice doesn't exist and 1 is less than 5. It's only an interesting topic after you add your own context.
English

@cammakingminds U don’t understand it. The trolley problem isn’t one definition. It’s a thought experiment that has multiple answers depending on the person and the context of the scenario. Ur admitting new variables change your answer which is the point; what makes you decide differently
English

@m0rdecaiCS The trolley problem doesn't imply anything about the behavior of the people tied to the tracks, their age, or their relationship to you. Don't add new variables that completely change the calculus of the thought experiment to make it more salient. It's not about criminal justice
English

@cammakingminds By that logic youd kill 1 child if it meant saving 10 pedophiles from death row. Because 10 lives are greater than 1 lol
English

@m0rdecaiCS Maybe if you are confused about agency or personal responsibility. My saving of 5 people instead of 1 doesn't strike me as a choice. I am either killing 5 people or 1. "Do nothing" is not a different thing killing 5 people. I am causing one of those things to happen either way.
