From Bitcointalk Bounties (2017) to a $100K Portfolio (2021).
(My 8-Year Journey Building Web3 Communities)
My journey into crypto didn’t start with a grand plan. It started with curiosity.
Back in 2018, during my university years, I kept hearing friends talk about something called Blockchain & Crypto. Some of them were participating in small bounty campaigns on Bitcointalk, earning tokens by helping projects grow their communities.
At first, it sounded strange. But curiosity got the better of me. I started researching, reading forums, and trying to understand how cryptocurrencies actually worked. For the next 8 months, I participated in bounty campaigns, creating content, engaging in communities, and learning how projects operated.
And during those 8 months…I earned exactly $0 : )
But what I gained instead was something more valuable: a deep understanding of how the crypto ecosystem and online communities function.
I tracked every campaign in a spreadsheet and ended up participating in more than 100 bounty campaigns🤠. Eventually, persistence paid off. My first real earnings came from creating content on Twitter and Medium, which brought in about $600 from a single bounty campaign.
That moment changed everything for me. It was the first time I realized that crypto wasn’t just a technology experiment.
From there, I became more involved in communities. I started reaching out to projects and applying for roles as a Local Community Ambassador and Moderator. Slowly, those small contributions turned into real opportunities.
Over time, I transitioned from local community work into global community moderation roles. During this period(2018 to 2019), I was earning around $300 per month through community management. Instead of spending it, I reinvested most of it into cryptocurrencies like BTC, ETH, and various Altcoins.
By the time I graduated in 2020 as an Electrical Engineer (BSc Hons.), my portfolio had grown to around $6,000. My personal goal at the time was to reach $10,000, so even hitting $6K felt like a huge milestone for me❤️.
Then came the bull run of early 2021.🐂
As the market heated up, I started investing in early-stage projects and promising altcoins. Over the months that followed, my portfolio grew far beyond what I originally imagined, eventually reaching +$100K.
But the most valuable thing I gained during that time wasn’t the market gains.
It was experience !!
While the market was booming, I continued working deeply within communities. My role evolved from moderator to community strategist, helping projects design engagement systems, grow their ecosystems, and manage large online communities.
Although my academic background is in Engineering, I realized something important along the way: my real strength wasn’t only in understanding technology, it was in connecting people around technology.
That realization led me to fully focus on the community side of Web3. Over the past 8+ years, I’ve worked with several blockchain projects including @staratlas , @SafeStakeDVT , @AlgoFoundation , @KAVA_CHAIN , @GXChainGlobal , @boltplus , @nebulasio , and @CosmicChamps as a Moderator, Community Manager, and Ambassador Program Lead. My work has involved managing and growing communities across Discord, Telegram, X, and Reddit, supporting thousands of users and helping projects build active ecosystems.
One area where I contributed significantly was community-driven growth. I helped create and manage the Discord communities, coordinate validator and testnet campaigns, run engagement programs, and organize initiatives that encouraged deeper participation from users.
Today, I continue working as a Freelancer at the intersection of community, growth, and technology, helping projects build structured ecosystems that support long-term adoption.
For me, crypto has never been just about markets or tokens.😉
