Search Intensifies for Missing Vosloorus Spaza Shop Owner Mazwi Kubheka Nearly a month after 27-year-old businessman Mazwi Mpumelelo Kubheka vanished, his family is desperately appealing for information and urgent action from authorities amid suspicions that his disappearance is linked to tensions over his spaza shop in Marimba Gardens. Kubheka, who operated a small tuck shop, was last seen on 2 April 2026 when he left home with his laptop and lunch, on his way to deposit rent money at the bank and also purchase stock. His sister, Nomhle Kubheka, spoke to him that morning and reported him missing shortly afterward. In an emotional interview, Nomhle revealed that a white van with unknown occupants was allegedly parked outside her brother’s shop shortly before he disappeared. She further alleged that a group of Somali nationals had approached Mazwi weeks earlier, pressuring him to vacate the premises in exchange for four months’ rent. The family believes these incidents may be connected to his abduction. “We suspect his disappearance has something to do with some Somali guys and a man called Zulu,” Nomhle told media. She described her brother as a humble, community-driven entrepreneur who had recently taken over the shop and was running it successfully. A missing person’s case was opened on 5 April. Residents of Vosloorus have held protests and marches to the local police station, demanding the safe return of Kubheka and highlighting broader concerns about alleged intimidation of local spaza shop owners by foreign operators. As the search continues with no trace of Mazwi, the Kubheka family urges anyone with information to come forward. Police have not yet confirmed any arrests linked to the case, and investigations are ongoing. The incident has sparked wider community frustration over competition and alleged foul play in the township spaza economy.
