In remembrance of four queer, christian, young men I’ve known who took their own lives, two while they were committed to my pastoral and priestly care. They wrestled with a false god, a rigid church and a vicious world. Unbound they live free now, and so do I, because of them.

The Irish president is being attacked for being correct about foreign policy so I wanted to share an old speech of him talking about the grave evils of cutting the minimum wage. I saw this when I was young and it was part of my political awakening.

These poignant medieval lullabies recognise that Christmas can be a time of loneliness, yearning and grief. Here's a beautiful example: 'As I lay on Yule's Night / Alone in my longing...' corymbus.co.uk/2016/12/16/as-…

Alongside the many merry medieval carols, there's another sadder, darker strain - a genre of melancholy lullabies. Mary tries to soothe her crying baby, but he explains he's crying for us, for the sorrows of the 'weeping world', which he has come to share. aclerkofoxford.blogspot.com/2018/12/mary-h…

Slightly jarring moment in a Carol service when the leader invites us to an Alpha course, and describes it as a 'safe space'. Not if you're part of the LGBTQ+ community, it's not.

@baliasta @RevDaniel I knew a monk like that, Aelred Graham. He was my spiritual director in my youth and is still my inspiration. He once said, ‘In the beginning, I thought I had to be a good catholic, then later a good monk, then a good Christian, but now I’m just trying to be a real human being’.

@RevDaniel One of the holiest Christians I have known was an elderly Benedictine monk who had made a deep study of Buddhism and meditation.

Maybe my eyesight is defective or my understanding of heraldry patchy, but I’m intrigued by the version of the Royal Arms used as a MI5 screensaver in the remake of ‘The Day of the Jackal’. Do the French know that British intelligence has designs on them?

Hanging on here for the contact it gives me with people whose stories and posts bring me joy, boost my hope and remind me of the things that really matter, while also prospecting newer avenues in the hope of finding you there and shaking the dust of this birdcage off my feet.

🧵Spending the last two days with Richard Rohr in New Mexico was an experience that transcends description. I grew up in a religious tradition that was hopelessly entangled with notions of a punitive, angry God who has to be constantly appeased. 1/5

Spending the next couple of days sharing the secrets of this place. The Royal York Hotel was the biggest hotel in the British Empire when it opened a century ago, “a city within a city”

Today I’m celebrating fifty years as a priest (and more fundamentally 82+ years as as human). So happy to see posts on here from so many newly ordained people in all our glorious diversity !

Today, I was pleased to support @BhutilaKarpoche's Private Member's Bill that would establish a Homelessness Task Force of advocates, front-line workers, and unhoused people to apply their expertise to develop a provincial homelessness strategy. Ontario desperately needs this.

Moving right as you age isn't an advance but a withdrawal, not victory but defeat. Embracing conservatism may make the world seem safe but in reality just makes it small. Experience should liberate, not limit. My Christian faith reminds me of that every day.

You could never run a successful website called Anglican Answers It would get started by 4 guys, one of whom would become Catholic and another Orthodox The other two would be a nosebleed lib Anglo Cath and an ACNA evangelical who are somehow friends but agree in nothing
