Due in part to recent events, I have decided to cease using X/Tw. I will be on BlueSky with the same mefletcher54 ID. If I post it will be there and on my blog. I've enjoyed our time together. Hopefully, you found my commentary and the discussions I was part of insightful.

This hits the mark. The number of reforms needed to pull us off the failed democracy glide path is practically as numberless as the failures of institutions, people, and laws that led us to where we are today - the edge of the abyss of dictatorship.
Sara Dillon@sara_dillon

Americans don't understand elections are only a small part of real democracy. We need lots of law reform to guard liberties and truth--then elections carried out fairly in that context. We cannot live in an insane and corrupt propaganda state and then expect elections to save us.

Just heard Pete Buttigieg on NPR. I would definitely vote for him for office in the future. I would also like to see him debate dumbass JD Vance.

@Murphlinyc Almost everything I warned about is coming to pass. I'm a little too tired at this point to comment any further.

Strategically, the American disaster will have massive global repercussions. My worst fear is that global governance and the climate are collapsing in tandem and the collapse will now accelerate. Hard, hard times ahead. Persevere. Find what joy you can. /3

Sigh. As I warned four ago, Biden now gets to watch it all slip away, and America will experience a period of upheaval and fascist theonomy./3

Perhaps we are the first nation to vote to end democracy during a period of prosperity and peace. It's a failure on many levels, but mostly a failure of US citizens. /1

@11tulips A nation that lets a known insurrectionist run for office again is not a serious country. Two months of crap coming. 2020 Deja Vu all over again. Trump will claim victory early and try to rile up his base for another stop the steal. Violence likely.

@images_mc You did the right thing. The whole Party has seceded from pluralistic democracy and the rule of law. It's a danger in its current form. Wait for a center/conservative Party that tries to get votes with policy for the public good, not, hate, nativism, demagoguery, and lies.

It is built on lies and false beliefs. Ponzi schemes collapse when exposed to strong light. Yes, it's an outlier, but Nov 5 might be Trump staring down the steep downslope of a Seneca Cliff. /2

Not only are tariffs considered a clumsy and dull economic meat axe by most economists, but the knock-on effects of Trump's blanket tariffs would likely cascade into painful knock-on effects on sectors and products far from products subjected to his tariffs. /2
