Let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God. Put away all filthiness and rampant wickedness and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. (James 1:19-22)

Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. Put away from you crooked speech, and put devious talk far from you. Let your eyes look directly forward, and your gaze be straight before you. Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil. (Proverbs 4:23-27, ESV)

When someone develops symptoms of depression for no clear reason, we should always consider the possibility that they have a medical condition impacting their brain. Autoimmune conditions are one of many possibilities.
Brain Inflammation Collaborative@BrainInflCollab

In 2017, Alina Sternberg, a psychiatrist, was hit with crushing fatigue and brain fog. Neurologists told her the symptoms were caused by depression. "No, I can enjoy my life, and I know what depression is... I’m a psychiatrist!” It took 6 years to discover the culprit...🧵

This is one of the more counterintuitive things we do early in ACT work, and it sometimes makes people uncomfortable until they understand what it's actually for. Creative hopelessness is not about instilling despair. It's about helping someone genuinely see, usually for the first time, that the control strategies they've been using to manage their suffering haven't been working, and may even have been making things worse. The "hopelessness" is directed at the strategy, not at the person or their situation. And it's "creative" because, once the old strategy is seen clearly as unworkable, there is suddenly space to try something genuinely different. Here's what it looks like: I might ask someone who has been fighting their anxiety for ten years to look honestly at the results. How has the fighting worked out? Has it reduced the anxiety, or has it become the organizing principle of their life? That honest look, uncomfortable as it is, is often what opens the door.

By eating at night, you are forcing an offline organ (pancreas) to work under hormonal lockdown Your pancreas has its own circadian clock, separate from the brain’s master clock, but synchronized to light/dark cycles During daylight: • Beta cells are insulin-responsive • Glucose sensing is high • Insulin secretion is efficient • Muscle + liver are primed for glucose At night: • Endogenous melatonin rises • MT1 receptors activate on pancreatic beta cells • Insulin secretion is deliberately suppressed I keep reminding people that this is by circadian and evolutionary design. Melatonin doesn’t just rise to make you sleepy, it also sends a system wide message to stop processing food and switch over to repair I offer a deep dive via my latest article on Substack in the tweet below

Mental housecleaning and meditation practices that encourage emptying the mind should be used with caution- without prayer, God, meditation on good, we open ourselves to vulnerabilities. From Matthew 12:43-45, “When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none. Then it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.' And when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept, and put in order. Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that person is worse than the first.”

Some caution on the Shunya/void practice, when the mind/consciousness is emptied to that level, we become vulnerable to influences/spirits that are harmful. Establishing/re-membering God’s presence, the good, is crucial. These advanced practices need caution. From Matthew 12:43-45, "When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none. Then it says, 'I will return to my house from which I came.' And when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept, and put in order. Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that person is worse than the first.”

This is so beautiful. And so important to study. This phenomena (emergent coherence) is central to much of life, and most people don't even imagine it could happen.

They capture the exact moment when a developing heart shifts from silence to its first beat. There is no “switch”: many cells gradually become active and, upon crossing a critical threshold, the entire tissue suddenly synchronizes.
