People assume that I advocate for JNCO-style pants, but look at how great this looks when suit trousers don't grip your legs like leggings. When you give them a little more room, you get a better line through the jacket and into the trousers.

@Gawpmusic For the record, we have a 3 year min and 60/40 split in favor of the artist. We recommend you do your own mastering, but we can. We’ll send out promos, provide cover art (templated, but unique), provide visual animated videos and push as we can through social media all at a loss.

@Gawpmusic Sounds like a scale problem. Small labels don’t have the revenue to do what larger ones do. They are only going to attract newer, unproven artists and new investing even $1k into a release probably won’t make it break even.

Noticed some labels contracts now asking 20 years minimum, no advances, pay for your own mixing and mastering (if you can’t do yourself) no promo mail outs and no visuals, just the artwork square for release.. which you pay for when they are all nearly the same 😂

@FunkinMatt @DillonNathaniel @imalectric Depends on the size of the label. If it’s a one man shop, it sometimes takes longer. The real problem is failing to do follow-ups.

@DillonNathaniel @imalectric 4 weeks is way too long :) 1-2 weeks follow up, then you either get a response in a few days or you sign it somewhere else. In my experience good labels answer within a week.

@DillonNathaniel @imalectric On #2: I do want to hear about how you are marketing and building your audience today as well as any prior successes or releases on other labels. The music counts most, but knowing an artist isn’t starting from ground zero and is taking ownership of their career helps.

@imalectric 1. Send through the demo email or or at least ask for the proper format
2. Keep it concise, no one needs to hear your “story” or bio in a demo email.
3. Send your best records in a similar style as the label already releases
4. Follow up only once 2 - 4 weeks later
