In the bl community, there are misogynistic women and pedo sympathisers. Women who try to control, degrade, or dictate how other women should live, all while claiming to be feminists. For me, feminism is simple: it’s about equal rights and personal agency. I believe women should have the right to make decisions for themselves, whether it’s about their bodies, their reproductive health, their mental health, or their lives in general. That’s what true empowerment looks like. But what I keep seeing online doesn’t always reflect that. I see people inserting their opinions, saying things like, “a woman is supposed to be this” or “a woman shouldn’t do that.” And one of the most confusing arguments I’ve seen is when people say they “feel bad” for women in certain performances because they were “made to dress like sexual objects.” That logic doesn’t hold up. If a woman chooses how to dress or how to express herself, why are we assuming she has no right? Why are we removing her autonomy just to fit a narrative? That, in itself, is a form of disrespect. Perception lies in the eyes of the beholder. The way you interpret something often reflects your own mindset. If you see a woman expressing herself and immediately reduce it to something sexual or degrading, that says more about how you view women than what she is actually doing. And the double standard is obvious. Men can be shirtless, show their bodies, and it’s normalized. But when women do the same, suddenly it becomes a moral issue. Why? We often say we should raise boys not to sexualize women, and that’s important. But we also need to acknowledge that women can project harmful narratives too. That conversation is often avoided or excused under the name of feminism, and that’s a problem. When I talk about feminism, I’m talking about fairness and accountability across the board. Yes, women are disproportionately affected by many societal issues, and that should never be ignored. But that doesn’t mean we excuse harmful behavior from anyone. You can’t claim empowerment while simultaneously policing other women’s choices. At the end of the day, don’t project your personal beliefs or discomfort onto others. Don’t disguise judgment as concern. And don’t strip women of their agency just to make your argument sound valid. That’s not feminism, that’s control dressed up as something else.

And that's what it felt to me. I had a few discussions in private about it and there's absolutely validity to "I'm feeling uncomfortable, this is too sexual, I feel like women are being objectified here". We can talk about how in feminism there's always been discussions about when female sexual liberation starts, what consent to it really means in a patriarchal society etc. It starts with sex work, pornography down to women wearing revealing clothes and whether they do it for themselves or not etc. And then further from "even if these women consented and even choreographed this - is it the symbolism that bothers me?". It's all valid. I personally disagree for a miriad of reasons but I understand the arguments. As OP was saying tho, having a different opinion is okay. Especially considering cultural differences in this very international fandom. But calling for cancellation and demanding apologies and starting to insult people might go too far. Just my two cents. (just talking about the people that legitimately criticised it aka not the people who were mad cause "not queer" or "not with J" or the ones from certain fandoms that just love to jump onto discussions for the sake of hating)

Every single movement in that choreography was carefully mapped out, rehearsed, and fully consented to as part of their job. If any of those professionals genuinely felt the routine was degrading, they could have easily backed out. But they didn't, because they are artists executing a performance. ​Secondly, the double standard here is glaringly loud. If a female artist performed this exact same choreography with male backup dancers—which I’ve seen plenty of times—it would be celebrated as "empowering" and absolutely no one would say shit. ​But because it’s him, you’re suddenly grasping at straws to invent outrage. Honestly, sometimes Dunk just needs to breathe and people will say he is taking other people's air. Take your fake, selective outrage somewhere else—we are going to keep cheering for an absolutely incredible performance.
