One of the most fun parts of OpenAI is watching people here level up so fast and do such excellent work. We are operating at a high level across many different disciplines and many of the people doing it have never done it before, and joined us at the beginning of their career. If you believe in people and give them a lot of responsibility and support (and pick the right people to bet on) you will be surprised on the upside more often than you think. I would love to see more companies operate this way and think we would all benefit. (This was also one of the most fun parts of startup investing.)

Found her drawing on a table, in a foul mood. Slid a piece of isometric paper under her pencil and from the corner of the table stood up my "rubber shark do do do do do rubber shark do do do do so rubber shark" - I got a glare and a held back smile. Table was clean when she left

Made a student smile today by seeking him out as my Resident expert on the number 5. I showed him a colleagues 5. He said: she(me) writes 5 like they're Japanese characters, you(colleague) write them like you're russian. What's wrong with you people?

Let us branch off from chats at specific points without losing the node we branched off from, sometimes I want to persue multiple possible branches to a conversation or sometimes I want to go on like a 1-3 side prompt conversation without it muddying the context of the original chat

Today a colleague brought in her hammer and nails and moved my classroom clock 5cm to the right. I was so thankful for this act of kindness, it would have driven me mad all year to have it perpetually slightly off centre in my new room

This week I drove 110 miles up the motorway to Penrith. I passed under 72 bridges. Of those 72 bridges, 48 of them had either a St George's Cross or a Union Flag cable tied to them. 3 weeks ago, same route, there were no flags.

So, here's a thing. I think I don't like flags I find myself feeling uncomfortable when they're being brandished and waved around. This is definitely a me problem, I can't put my finger on the route of my unease, but it doesn't feel right. Am I being a crank?

BTW, I've basically stopped using Opus entirely and I now have several Codex tabs with GPT-5-high working on different tasks across the 3 codebases (HVM, Bend, Kolmo). Progress has never been so intense. My job now is basically passing well-specified tasks to Codex, and reviewing its outputs. OpenAI isn't paying me and couldn't care less about me. This model is just very good and the fact people can't see it made me realize most of you are probably using chatbots as girlfriends or something other than assisting with complex coding tasks
