In the last two weeks I've heard that people often experience homophobia at UWI Carnival. Which is surprising given Jamaica carnival is often viewed as a queer friendly space. I'm interested in what contributes to the difference.

Last Christmas an elder changed my life. He said: ‘People supposed to be gentle wid Yu. That’s why God mek Yu soft so.’ If ur struggling with your softness & emotionality, remember u can choose to stop treating it as a failing & see it a sign of how you’re meant to be treated.

Be vulnerable, yes. But be mindful as well. Some people will make a mess of you and only acknowledge that you’re not as pretty as you used to be. You owe yourself more than that <3
