@AllyFogg There's some research somewhere that says that cars in cities travel at the speeds of public transport. If there's more congestion and cars are slower, people move to public transport and congestion reduces. If they're faster, people move out of public transport into cars.

Spent the past hour or so (politely) debating transport in Manchester with other Mancs.
The thing NOBODY seems to get about traffic congestion is that if you solve it & make roads really quick & easy to drive on, you create a massive incentive for more people to drive. 1/3

Disappointing response from the minister to my question about how funding for reorganising councils & forming mayoral regions will be handled
I will keep making the case that a govt dictated scheme should be fully funded by them or communities could see services cut to pay for it

The idea that there needs to be a minimum pop of 500,000 to make new unitaries work is bonkers in comparative terms.
These mega-councils will be:
🏴 3x larger than the av. English council now,
🇩🇪60x larger than the av. German council

I've also asked that they look at what happened in process terms so we don't get a repeat. They're "looking at the issue as a matter of urgency."
