I started this b/c (1) I am really critical and complain a lot about the state of science (2) we hardly ever get any positive feedback in academia. This is an excuse to repair the bravo void, bridge the admiration rift, and fill the plaudit lacuna mrootbernstein.wixsite.com/admirationsitu…

@newton_pete The stocking density is like a couple hundred cattle or less, and some horses over several thousands of hectares. I don’t have good numbers as it is not market driven, owners may not see cattle for years at a time.

@newton_pete I think the disconnect is because the arguments against livestock at the global scale are made based on average or total impacts, consequently local livestock raising variants with small, neutral/ positive outcomes are not “visible”. Also very few parameters are assessed.

#landscape heritage and indigenous knowledge is important in #conservation. We ask how Chilean semi-arid woodlands have responded to a contentious practice, #livestock raising. Along with other peasant practices, 🐂🐄 pasturing may be eliminated by Chilean policy. #FLARETC20 1/5

@newton_pete 1, tree establishment, which is already low, will decline without dispensers. 2, forest fire intensity will increase without large grazers to eat up grass and understory. Note year-round free range cattle don’t seem to eat the tree saplings.

I’m looking for a GIF that represents “hypothesis formation” for #FLARETC20 and so far this is the winner. Cause it clearly demands a lot of hypothesis formation.
