It has been 61 trading days since the $VIX has closed under 17.
Until today.
The $VIX closed at 16.99 today. This marks the first time it has closed under 17 since February 2nd.
The risk-on rally we saw in April is truly unprecedented.
And now we head into May with a $VIX drifting lower...

Since August '24, there have been 6 instances of $VIX spikes over 28. Defined as the number of days in which the $VIX held a daily close above 17, most of these spikes resolved quickly. 4 of these spikes resolved in 20 trading days or less. The longest one to resolve was centered around Liberation Day and took 74 trading days to resolve. We are on trading day 36 of the current $VIX spike.
