@backinblack_wx @CameronJNixon @NickKrasz_Wx With the amount of detail I have in our reanalysis of tornadoes for 2011 through 2025 that will be released in the future we can probably put together a fun little research project just on track deviations and storm interactions alone. It's always fascinating seeing that.

@CameronJNixon @NickKrasz_Wx @muggiewx Where the tornado just kind slowly meanders right of mean motion and weakens like it’s been left by the parent meso and get advected down the RFD. Haven’t seen the radar loop for barnsdall but if I were to guess I’d bet something get ingested in the forward flank as well.

Planet Labs satellite imagery of the May 6, 2024 Barnsdall, Oklahoma EF4 tornado. Quite a violent scar left behind where the tornado peaked in intensity southwest of the town. You can see in the last photo where it made a sudden eastern turn, missing central Barnsdall in result.

@backinblack_wx @CameronJNixon @wxKobold @PaxBiggs And pairing that with the varying tornado environments that occur down here. There's some pretty obvious patterns, and once I'm done with the reanalysis we can hopefully put to paper the immense amount of stuff sitting in my brain from all this

@backinblack_wx @CameronJNixon @wxKobold @PaxBiggs After having looked through hundreds if not thousands at this point of potential cases with the radar reanalysis for the past decade here, there is absolutely a correlation between storm interactions/storm type and tor/no tor, tor intensity, and tor deviations.

They weren't kidding when they said there were some spicy chases in the new @OutbrkGame update. One of my favorite chases in the game so far with a grand finale EF5-equivalent tornado. Winds were above 200mph for a long time with that one.

Last night, the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron flew into the eye of Hurricane Erin—and captured imagery of the breathtaking stadium effect. These missions provide critical data to the NHC to improve forecasts, helping keep communities safe before the storm makes landfall.#readynow #weatherready

I am devastated to share that the love of my life, Gizmo, has passed away at the age of 17. We shared so many memories and storm chasing adventures together especially over the last 15 years. Gizmo chased over 200 tornadoes, category 5 hurricanes, and loved me unconditionally through some very hard times across hundreds of miles. We chased through the pandemic on fast-food living out of the Subaru. She beat cancer, ticks, flash floods, and was inside of a tornado with a broken leg / peg leg cast. She visited 48 states, dozens of National Parks, three Canadian provinces and was loved by many storm chasers. This will be a very difficult time

Not every day we get such well-defined supercells with deep mesocyclones offshore in our marine waters, especially with deep layer shear profiles making them look "upside down". Pretty neat little zone of high 3cape and sfc vorticity with near stationary storms stretching that.

We can recognize the emergence and the importance of streamers within the weather enterprise and warning process without stuffing the importance and work of the NWS into the mud. Ryan, max and the other streamers help bridge a gap we don’t have the people to do. We work as one!
WIRED@WIRED

Storm streamers are using radars and AI robots to predict extreme weather for millions of YouTube subscribers, in some cases faster than the National Weather Service, which has been gutted by DOGE. wired.com/story/the-vira…
