Go back a decade in Irish political history and you will find hundreds of incidences of finger pointing from FG while in opposition, pointed at every known corruption/cronyism from Fianna Fail. The student has now excelled the master and is sitting at the same table.

HALF A MILLION PEOPLE WERE DEFRAUDED Imagine you are behind on your store card payments. You are already struggling. Then the bank quietly adds an extra charge on top of what you owe. Not because it costs them that much. Just because .. they can. And because they think nobody is watching. Someone was watching. Nicholas Wilson was a debt recovery lawyer. He goes by Mr Ethical @nw_nicholas on X. His old boss meant it as an insult. In 2003 he noticed that @HSBC subsidiary HFC Bank was adding an illegal 16.4% charge onto the debts of people who were already in financial trouble. Store cards from John Lewis, Currys, B&Q, Dixons, PC World. Ordinary people. Struggling people. Being quietly robbed. He told his boss it was illegal. His boss started calling him "Mr Ethical" as a joke. Then they sacked him. He reported it to the regulators. @TheFCA ignored him for years. When a researcher separately wrote to both HSBC and the FCA asking about the fraud... ... both wrote back with responses in the exact same wording, same punctuation, same paragraphs. The bank and the regulator were sharing the same script. FCA's own independent Complaints Commissioner eventually investigated. He called it the worst case of regulatory failure he had ever dealt with. FCA's response was to appoint Ruth Kelly, an HSBC director, and Baroness Hogg from John Lewis, onto its own board. The two people they were supposed to be investigating were now sitting inside the regulator. You actually cannot make this up. After 13 years of Wilson refusing to go away, HSBC quietly agreed to pay some money back. FCA announced 6,700 victims. Wilson says the real number is closer to 500,000. HSBC has now set aside £223 million for repayments. No fine. No criminal charges. No one went to prison. No one was even publicly named. Wilson has spent the last 20 years unemployable. Blacklisted. Living on state benefits. Fighting to keep his home. Someone even anonymously reported him to the DWP for benefit fraud while the actual billion pound fraud went unpunished. The bank that robbed half a million people kept its licence. The man who caught them lost everything. Aramco just confirmed what the data already showed. Even if Hormuz opens tomorrow — rebalancing takes months. And if the closure extends a few more weeks? Normalization pushed to 2027. This means: ▸ June → Operational Stress Level (7.6B barrels) ▸ September → Operational Floor (6.8B barrels) ▸ 2027 → earliest possible normalization The market is not pricing a 2027 recovery timeline. It’s pricing a quick fix that Aramco just said won’t happen. This changes everything.

Harvard researchers have identified lithium depletion in the brain as a key driver of Alzheimer’s disease, opening the door to low-dose lithium treatments that may prevent or even reverse memory loss. For decades, scientists have sought the exact mechanisms that convert brain abnormalities into the progressive cognitive decline seen in Alzheimer’s. A major new study from Harvard Medical School suggests that lithium — a naturally occurring element essential for maintaining neuronal health and protecting against aging — plays a central role. The researchers found that as toxic amyloid plaques accumulate, they bind to and deplete the brain’s natural lithium reserves. This depletion helps explain why some individuals with significant plaque buildup never develop full dementia: their lithium levels may remain sufficient to provide ongoing neuroprotection. To overcome this issue, the team screened lithium compounds and identified lithium orotate, a form that largely evades capture by amyloid plaques. In mouse models of Alzheimer’s, low-dose lithium orotate, administered at levels roughly 1,000 times lower than those used for psychiatric conditions, reversed key disease pathologies, reduced plaque and tau accumulation, restored synapses, and fully recovered memory function, even in older animals with advanced disease. Importantly, this treatment showed no signs of the kidney or thyroid toxicity associated with higher-dose lithium therapies. While human clinical trials are still needed, the findings raise the possibility that routine lithium screening and early supplementation could transform how Alzheimer’s is prevented and treated. The Scoliosis Advocacy Network #BackUs
@SimonHarrisTD now says the 2017 four month #scoliosis surgery pledge was “too blunt” and may have created “false hope”. But that pledge was made for a reason. It came after years of children waiting in pain, deteriorating while sitting on endless waiting lists, and families desperately fighting to access timely care. The four month target was supposed to end that suffering. Once a clinical decision for surgery is made, there is no benefit to prolonged delay. Children’s curves progress. Pain increases. Surgery can become more complex and riskier. Childhood is put on hold. The failure was not the target. The failure was allowing a system to continue where children could not access surgery within a clinically appropriate timeframe. If CHI were properly following NTPF guidance, children who were not clinically ready for surgery should not be sitting on “active” waiting lists in the first place. That raises serious questions about waiting list governance, transparency and oversight. What is also striking is this: The lead of the CHI Spinal Management Team is regularly in the media stating he does not support the four month target. Yet we rarely hear the same public focus on the children harmed by these delays. The children whose curves progressed while waiting.
Children who became more complex to operate on.
Children left with reduced outcomes because surgery did not happen in time. Where is the public outrage about that? Where is the urgency for those children? That silence speaks volumes. thesun.ie/news/16911274/… #Scoliosis #PatientSafety #ChildrensRights @CHI_Ireland @CarrollJennifer @AnneOConnorIRL @SBH_PAG

Our breakdown of Wes Streeting’s donors has been doing the rounds online for the last year. Now we’ve updated it – with another £55,000 from OPD Group, which, in the words of @EveryDoctorUK, “provides services to the NHS [and] is ultimately controlled by Peter Hearn, whose company Odgers Berndtson offers headhunting services to the NHS as well as the private healthcare sector”. Out of the kindness of their hearts?
