✊🏽 Some interventions stay with you because they put numbers, risk and lived experience in the same frame. 🎙️ At Africa CEO Forum 2025, Chilufya Mutale-Mwila, Co-Founder of @my_eshandi, shared a story that captured what is at stake when women entrepreneurs are locked out of finance. 💬 From taking a bus alone to South Africa at 19 with $100 from her father, to becoming a CEO at 30, to selling her house, car and savings to build a business with her husband, her journey speaks to something bigger than individual success. It shows what ambition looks like when it has to fight for capital at every stage. 📊 Her remarks also pointed to a hard reality. More than 40 million SMEs across Sub-Saharan Africa face a $330 billion financing gap. These businesses account for over 90% of companies and 60% of jobs, yet 80% receive no bank financing. 🚀 That is why the panel “Africa’s growth engine: Women, capital and jobs” mattered. Africa will not unlock its full growth potential without financing models that match the realities of women-led businesses, from early-stage backing to flexible growth capital. 🤝 Chilufya Mutale-Mwila’s intervention was also a reminder that backing women entrepreneurs is not charity and it is not optics.
