Indians are consuming differently from 12 years back. Spending on durables is shifting away from basic items like clothing & footwear towards electronic appliances and personal goods. There is rapid convergence between rural & urban households, as well as between the bottom 40% and the rest. There are also some unexpected turns, e.g. TV ownership of Bottom 40% > richest 20% in urban areas. There are fascinating differences across states. My car broke down yesterday... My girlfriend lost her job a week ago (we were splitting rent)... Recently I was about to onboard 2 new clients but it didn't work out in the end... The everpresent "what do we do now..." hanging in the air... My girlfriend kept looking at me in silence, we both knew... Hard times require hard decisions...
