Reporting live from City Hall, where the City Council meeting is 51 minutes behind schedule and every single councilmember has an unopened bag of Cheez-Its on their desk 🫡

I’ll never stop advocating for photo credit! Photographers work tirelessly to capture amazing images, and it’s frustrating when they’re shared without credit. If @taylorswift13 can credit photographers, so can her fans. And seriously, stop removing watermarks—respect the work!

Of course, this is just an estimate-- MO's results are still unofficial, and voters could have left one or the other race blank on their ballots. But it's clear from the numbers that the state's abortion amendment votes didn't split cleanly along party lines.

1.527 million people in MO voted Yes on restoring abortion rights. But only 1.24 million voted for a presidential candidate other than Donald Trump. If everyone who voted on abortion also cast a vote for president, that means ~287,000 Trump voters also supported Amendment 3 👀

5 Missouri counties that went for Trump last week also favored Amendment 3, which aims to restore abortion rights in the state. And 4 of those counties are in the Kansas City area. 🤔 Find this and other interesting election stats in my newest data piece: kansascity.com/news/politics-…

Check out this graph of general election turnouts over the past 5 presidential election years. The lowest are always in Kansas City proper and Wyandotte County, the home of Kansas City, Kansas. But Tuesday's turnout was even lower than normal. datawrapper.de/_/R4zZQ/

Here's my latest on turnout in the Kansas City metro area. The big takeaway: significant early voting turnouts didn't translate to overall high turnout-- especially in urban areas. All 6 election jurisdictions saw lower turnout than in 2020. Read more: kansascity.com/news/politics-…

Nearly 30% (!) of registered voters in the 5 counties that make up the Kansas City metro area have already voted: over 400,000 people. And that doesn't even count all absentee envelopes or today's in-person early votes on the Kansas side. My latest: kansascity.com/news/politics-…

Missourians! If you need time off work tomorrow to vote, ask your boss for it TODAY. Legally they have to give you three consecutive hours WITH PAY to go vote, unless there are three hours while polls are open when you are not scheduled to be at work: revisor.mo.gov/main/OneSectio…

I get that it's confusing to hear that a newspaper is both fair / balanced / unbiased and that it's also endorsing someone for office. But just because editorial and news are under the same publication name doesn't mean we work together. They can share opinions, we can't.

Often we (news people) can't even communicate with the editorial side. I've called sources who say "I've already talked to the Star 😠" meaning an editorial writer. And I have to convince them to talk to me too, because I can't share notes with the opinion team.

I am BEGGING newspaper readers to remember that the editorial side of your favorite paper (which does endorsements, opinion pieces, publishes guest columns etc.) is NOT THE SAME as the news division, which must remain neutral on everything and cannot show bias 🥲

Over 63,000 people have already cast their votes in the 3 Missouri counties covering the Kansas City metro area. But percentage-wise, Clay and Platte County voters are way ahead of those in Jackson County, both in and outside of city limits. My latest: kansascity.com/news/politics-…
