"If we're paying people who are working with kids $31,000 then we are saying that we know that we are taking the people who we trust our kids with, and we're forcing them to live below the poverty line," NC drops to 43rd in nation for teacher pay wunc.org/education/2025…

We all want a better and brighter future for our children and grandchildren, and no one understands that our children are our future more than educators.  Thank you to the dedicated educators at @NCAE for having @MoGreenNCDPI and me this morning.

Many of you have seen a bill filed in the NCGA that would increase teacher pay scales by $9,000-12,000 annually. H192 was filed by Rep. Erin Pare, a Wake County Republican, and now has significant bipartisan support. Below is our statement on the bill. It’s certainly a hopeful sign about what is possible in this session. We are ready to work with anyone who will take this issue seriously.

It is well known that education is the greatest equalizer of lifelong success, and it is imperative that we sufficiently fund education for the betterment of not only our citizens, but also our state’s future. As North Carolina’s public education authority, it is our duty to ensure that our schools are cultivating excellence, and I believe these legislative priorities and budgetary asks support our mission at NCDPI and keep students at the center of our work.
