@giuliaevolvi that's really bizarre! I've never said no to someone asking to see a grant application.

When I was applying to a Marie Curie I asked a former colleague and friend if they could share their successful application with me. They said no. So now I make a point to share my application with everyone who wants to read it, because that's the type of academic I want to be.

Congratulations to @njaywilliams and team who received an ELDP grant to document Benggoi, a critically endangered language of Seram Island, Indonesia. Their project aims for initial documentation and community-driven materials! #LanguagePreservation #EndangeredLanguages

I came across a 12 hour video on YouTube that I’d like to transcribe and use for research. Does anyone know of an easily implementable automatic transcription tool that might work and is free? Is this something that exists yet, for an initial transcript? #emca

@lelia_glass Thanks, Leila! Could you recommend a paper or two in the 'computational social science' realm that you think is good/representative? and yeah, language endangerment is part of the foundation, always on the agenda :)

In Spring 2024, I will teach a 'Language and Culture' course. There are many ways to teach such a course. If it were up to you, what topics/areas of research do you think *must* be included (I'm aiming for a course that both covers the foundations and feels up-to-date)?

@njaywilliams my boss (Prof Xiaoting Li) purchased it. I think bcoz Transana has a Multiuser license meaning multiple transcribers can collaborate on the same long file & edit each other’s work. Also timecode can link the turns with the moments in the video - @DOTE_AAU can do too I think

After weeks of struggling with the setup, I am starting to appreciate #Transana, it can generate word frequency and search by certain morphemes. Now figuring out how to link the videos in Google Drive so our team can transcribe collaboratively. Appreciate any advice🙏
