We’re saddened to hear of the loss of the great conductor Bernard Haitink. He appeared at the Proms across more than 50 years, most recently in 2019 soon after he turned 90. He’ll be remembered with admiration and affection.

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Bernard Haitink. He set the benchmark for the highest possible standards of musicianship, collegiality, insight, selflessness and excellence as a conductor. He exemplified the very best of what a conductor and leader can and should be.

Perhaps our most important task as musicians is to make the music understandable to the listener. We have to convey the meaning of pieces we play, as clearly as possible. When teaching, I've never urged anyone to play 'more complicatedly'; it's always: 'make it simpler!"

I’ve just booked a hotel & trains for a concert & put the booking codes in an actual diary for the first time in about 16 months. I think that’s enough of an achievement for one day - probably time to go back to bed with a cuppa.
